What is casino bonus wagering?

Wagering, or playthrough, is the amount you have to stake before bonus money and anything it won can be withdrawn. A C$100 bonus at 35x means C$3,500 of turnover.

It is a real cost, not a formality, because pushing money through the games is not free.

The sum

Turnover equals bonus multiplied by the wagering figure. Then the cost of that turnover is roughly four percent of it at ordinary slot maths.

So C$100 at 35x is C$3,500 of staking, costing about C$140 in expectation. The offer hands you a hundred and asks for a hundred and forty on the way out.

At 10x the same hundred costs about forty dollars of turnover and comes out ahead. The multiplier is the entire story and the headline number is a distraction.

The details that move it

Is it the bonus only, or deposit plus bonus? Deposit-plus doubles the requirement without changing the advertised number.

Game weighting: slots usually count at 100%, table games at 10% or less, live dealer sometimes at zero. Clearing a bonus on blackjack can take ten times the stakes it appears to.

Max bet while a bonus is active, usually C$5 or so. Breaking it can void the balance, and it is enforced automatically.

The clock

Expiry runs from seven days to a month depending on the room. At C$25 a day of ordinary staking, C$3,500 of turnover is not a seven-day job.

Every offer on our free money board prints the turnover, the estimated cost of clearing it, and the days it would take at a normal stake level. Some come out positive. Most do not.
